Voice Commands

Most devices have a separate Voice Command key, please check with your phone manual on where the voice command key is located on your device.

Digit dialing.You speak the digits; the phone dials them for you.

Dial by name. Speak a name that has been programmed in your phone book and the phone will call that person.

Voice Command. By activating the Voice Commands you can use your voice to navigate and hear information from your phone.

Voice Command list:
  • Call (Name or Number)
  • Send Message
  • Go to menu
  • Check Item - Contains Phone Status, Voice Mail, Messages, Missed Calls, Time, Signal Strength, and Battery
  • Look up Name
  • My Account - Links to VZW My Account
  • Help


Menu Readout

Most devices have some menu read out capabilities. The device must be set to “readout” in order for that functionality to work. Check your manual for instructions on how to set our device for the readout mode.

A few devices that have both voice commands and menu readout are:

Both phones offer several accessible features including:

Voice Over (iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 only)
Voice Over is a built in screen reader in iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, touch the screen to hear a description of the item under your finger, then double tap, drag or flick to the control the phone. Voice Over speaks over 30 languages and works with all the applications that are built into the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.

Voice Control (iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 only) 
iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 support voice control which recognizes the names in your contact list to place a call by speaking the name. You can also play any song in your library by song, specific album, artist or playlist by using your voice.

Android Applications

TalkBack, SoundBack and KickBack are free Android applications to help with the accessibility of Android devices. These applications add spoken, audible and vibration functionality to the device, they will not make the device fully accessible but will assist with the accessibility of the device. These applications can be found in most Android devices in the Accessibility section of Settings. They can also be used in conjunction with other Android applications.
